About Modica
Enclosed in a shell of rock, Modica is one of the oldest town in Sicily. From the earliest times to the centuries of the modern age in Modica is of paramount importance in this area. Indeed, it was the capital of \\"Contea di Modica\\" for glory and power in Sicily was considered a veritable \\"state within a state.\\" After the earthquake of 1963 Modica was almost completely destroyed and completely rebuilt in baroque style, using the bright local limestone. The churches that surround the city of Modica allowed to obtain the coveted World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The churches are very numerous, hence the name city of a hundred churches. Another factor that has contributed to it’s fame is the world renowned chocolate of Modica
